Visiting….

The station sits in one of the most remote and rugged settings in the whole of Great Britain, at the foot of a 140ft (45 metre) cliff and less than a mile from England’s most southerly point. Its wild location means that every time the boat is launched, the crew have to run down more than 200 steep steps from the station car park to the boathouse in Kilcobben cove. Given the nature of the rocky coasts all around, this is the best siting for the Lizard boat in its long history.

The boathouse has been under construction since May 2010 when the old station was demolished to make way for the new larger station and slipway which will house the Tamar class all-weather lifeboat Rose.

Directions:

From Helston take the road A3083 to The Lizard

From the The Lizard Village take the road to Church Cove (it is sign posted)

You will pass the church on your left (Please park in the car park just beyond the church) then follow the road down on foot until you see a gated entrance on the right signed
The Lizard Lifeboat, follow the path through the field up to the station.

Visitors are always very welcome to visit the boathouse. The station will normally be manned Monday to Friday by the duty coxswain and mechanic and is open for visitors between 10am and 3:30pm. But please bear in mind that it is still an operational station and that working duties, let alone emergencies, may take them away from base.

Groups or individuals are always welcome to visit as part of an organised trip, but we require some advance warning and therefore if you wish to visit please contact:

Mr Peter Greenslade on 01872 272141.
