Visiting….
The station sits in one of the most remote and rugged settings in the whole of Great Britain, at the foot of a 140ft (45 metre) cliff and less than a mile from England’s most southerly point. Its wild location means that every time the boat is launched, the crew have to run down more than 200 steep steps from the station car park to the boathouse in Kilcobben cove. Given the nature of the rocky coasts all around, this is the best siting for the Lizard boat in its long history.
That, at least, is the “normal” situation. But not at the moment! Currently, until at least the autumn of 2011, the area is a hive of building activity while our new ultra-modern station and slipway are being built.

Visitors have always been welcome to visit the boathouse – but now, in the absence of a boathouse, we have only a temporary set of offices in the station car park while building goes on all around. There will normally be a duty coxswain and mechanic on site Monday to Fridays from 9.30am to 3pm, but please bear in mind that it is still an operational station and that working duties, let alone emergencies, may take them away from base. For the duration of the build, our lifeboat will be afloat a mile or so East or West of the cove, depending on weather, and not at Kilcobben.

Directions:
From Helston take the road A3083 to The Lizard
From the The Lizard Village take the road to Church Cove (it is sign posted)
You will pass the church on your left (Please park in the car park just beyond the church) then follow the road down on foot until you see a gated entrance on the right signed
